YouTube video game discussions pt 3

This is another video too cool not to share.

In this video game designer, Jane McGonigal, argues the positive benefits of video games. How so? By presenting the top 5 regrets and joys of living. And she backs it up with science. She talks about the game she made, SupperBetter, and how it helped her grow. Essentially what it is a game that lets the “player” pretend to be someone else and do little covert operations/missions.

And I think the psychology is quite sound too. Are we, as people, more likely to do 1 little task or 1 big task? The little task, of course. And if we pretend we have control over the problem, didn’t we always have some sort of control over it all along? The pretend technique is one that is popular in Strategic Family Therapy. Heck, healing through play is the premise for play therapy. Have you incorporated some play in  your day yet?

If nothing else, the video gives some information to think about.

Oh yeah, my treatment plan for myself would include 30 minutes of MMO time to help work on loneliness. That’s a different discussion though.
